The pool at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre won’t re-open until spring break.

The repair work to fix a broken pipe under the tank is taking longer than expected.

Now, the city is alerting residents the job that started Jan. 2 will extend to mid-March.

As a result, the change and showers in the aquatic area will remain closed; however, those amenities are also available off the main lobby.

The Wilson Lounge, weight room, arenas and gym will remain open.

Still, for residents wanting to sign up for swimming lessons or other water classes this spring, sessions will be moved to the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier Ave.). Registration starts on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Hyde Creek has extended hours while the PCCC pool is being updated: Monday to Friday until 10 p.m.

City staff had hoped to have finished the deficiency by mid February.

It involved PCCC’s project builder, Ventana, coring a hole in the tank and allowing time for the concrete to cure, city staff say.
