Did you know that October is LGBTQ+ History Month?

Established nearly 30 years ago, it was created to celebrate and acknowledge and the history of queer rights and related civil rights movements around the world.

Next Wednesday (Oct. 19), Coquitlam Heritage is set to host a free special presentation about the local queer community and are inviting the public to meet a well-known historian that'll be in attendance.

Glenn Tkach created the Really Gay History Tour five years ago with Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours.

Since then, the storyteller and podcast host has spent countless hours guiding and educating thousands of people in hopes of developing an understanding of the region's LGBTQ+ history.

Tkach is also currently in the process of launching a YouTube channel documenting Vancouver's queer community — known as Requeering History.

Coquitlam Heritage's presentation is scheduled for Oct. 19 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Mackin House (1116 Brunette Ave.) and refreshments will be served during the presentation.

As space is limited, interested participants — aged 12 years and older — are encouraged to register in advance for the free event.
