Did you do any home cleaning or organizing during the summer and came across some personal papers you don't need anymore?

The Friends of Coquitlam Public Library Society is gearing up to host a shred-a-thon this weekend to allow local residents to properly dispose any unwanted documents.

By donation, the group is inviting everyone to bring any confidential notes, taxation forms, banking statements, credit card bills and any other important unwanted papers to the Poirier Branch — located at 575 Poirier St.

Over a three-hour period on Saturday (Sept. 17), the items will then be shredded safely and securely by bonded professionals on site.

The option is set to give the opportunity to prevent any kind of potential fraud, especially if the documents are tossed in the trash.

As well, all proceeds raised from the shred-a-thon is set to be earmarked for the Coquitlam Public Library and its community programs.

Interested residents are being asked to bring paper only, preferably in a box.

Newsprint, cardboard, plastics, photographs and negatives will not be accepted.

The society's event is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 17, and a minimum donation of $5 per box of paper is recommended.

For more information, you can visit the Coquitlam Public Library's website.
