Do you remember the first item you ever purchased from IKEA? This weekend, the Swedish mega store is celebrating two decades in the Tri-Cities.

Has it really been that long?

The answer is 'Yes' — 'Ja' (YA) if you're Swedish — as IKEA celebrates 20 years since the grand opening of the big-box housewares store in Coquitlam.

In addition to giveaways and events planned for Saturday (April 9) and Sunday (April 10), the company is also hosting a clothing donation drive for Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver.

A news release states it's to recognize the long-term community partnership its had with the non-profit since business opened in 2002.

As a thank you to those who donate, customers will receive a 'thank you coupon' to redeem in-store that weekend.

"Wanting to thank the community for growing with us the past 20 years, IKEA Coquitlam is offering incredible anniversary weekend festivities as a great family outing for all," IKEA's statement reads.

To celebrate its "Platinum Anniversary," various events and offers are also on the docket.

Customers can expect hourly gift card giveaways at the cash lanes, prizes to be won at the IKEA Family games table, exclusive anniversary weekend-only IKEA Family offers, and even a child friendly Scavenger Hunt for chance to win an ultimate kid’s prize pack.

In addition, the first 20 people in line this weekend, April 9 and 10, will receive a $100 gift card.

IKEA Coquitlam first opened its doors to the community on April 3, 2002, and has served over 45 million visitors in the Lower Mainland.

IKEA has two stores in B.C.; the other on No. 3 Road in Richmond opened in 1976.
