Photos: Adoption fees cut in half for these adorable Tri-Cities animals

For two weeks, the SPCA is giving interested pet owners the chance to find a new friend at half the normal adoption cost. Here's who's looking for a home in our region.

A dozen animals are currently up for adoption at BC SPCA's Coquitlam chapter.

And the organization is giving interested pet owners the chance to take one of them home for half the cost.

Starting today (Oct. 15), the BC SPCA is offering 50 per cent off adoption fees as part of efforts to free up space for incoming animals in need of urgent care.

There are several kittens, cats and birds in the care of volunteers and staff at the Tri-Cities SPCA Education and Adoption Centre — located at 1-2565 Lougheed Hwy. in Coquitlam.

You can view a list of pets available for adoption below.

All of whom, BC SPCA says, are hoping to find a forever home through the two-week promotion.

"We have so many animals in our care who are looking for loving homes," adds spokesperson Adrienne McBride in a statement.

"In addition to finding families for these amazing pets, we want to make sure we have space open in our facilities and our foster homes for other animals who need a warm, safe place to stay as the colder weather approaches.

"If you have been thinking about adopting a pet and giving them the loving home they deserve, we encourage you to act now and take advantage of this promotion."

The half-off adoption fees event runs until Oct. 29.

Interested residents are encouraged to visit the BC SPCA's adoption page for more information.

Here are the pets currently up for adoption in the Tri-Cities (from youngest to oldest), along with SPCA profile descriptions:

Buddy and Max

  • Five months old

Buddy and Max are best buddies and are looking for a home together.

They are still quite shy, but are starting to be curious around people and will purr with gentle pets.

They would do best in a quiet, cat-savvy home with a family that can provide multiple play sessions throughout the day and continue on with their socialization.

Big Wig

  • One year old

Big Wig is a rabbit with quite the personality.

His SPCA profile says he requires a home where he is able to free roam in a large space, loves hanging out in his 'tree,' scavenging for treats and chewing.

"He is very social and would love a home where his family can interact with him often. He would like for us to also share that he loves romaine lettuce, parsley and cilantro!"

Ellipsis

  • One year old

Ellipsis is a young rabbit who always seems to be ready for adventure and fun.

She loves having plenty of space to hop, play and explore, but tends to be on the shy side and take a little time to warm up to strangers.

Rabbits are active animals that require tons of space to hop around, xpens, playpens, or a full bunny room would be great!

Please ensure you do your research to ensure your lifestyle is compatible with the needs of rabbits.

Octavia

  • One year old

This super sweet bunny lives a very luxurious life of adventuring.

Octavia has come a long way, but still needs help from her new human parents to help her be more confident.

Rabbits are active animals that require tons of space to hop around, xpens, playpens, or a full bunny room would be great!

Please ensure you do your research to ensure your lifestyle is compatible with the needs of rabbits. They are also very social creatures, so ideally a home with another social rabbit(s) would be great.

Cailey

  • Two years old

Cailey is a shy gentle kitty, but warms up to you quickly.

She can be a little picky with her food but we are hoping that with a home to call her own, she will be more comfortable and put on a wee bit more weight.

As with any new furry family member, interested residents are strongly recommend starting her off in a smaller, enclosed area of your home so that she can get used to the new sounds and smells of her new environment.

She is booked for her spay surgery on Oct. 25 in Port Coquitlam, so her new family would be picking her up as a "foster to adopt" and taking care of her until then.

Wasabi

  • Two years old

Much like her namesake, Wasabi can be a tad spicy when she’s worked up, minus the green part.

She is a recent mom and we noticed that she felt quite protective of her little ones. They have now all found homes, but Wasabi is looking for a family that she can call her own.

She is very chatty and will always have a good story to tell you. Wasabi loves attention and if she’s not getting enough, she may decide to climb up the side of your leg. She absolutely loves Churu tubes and has an adorable purr-box that often goes non-stop.

She would love a home where she could explore (or one with a catio) and also have multiple play sessions with you throughout the day as she has a lot of energy to spare. If you are up to harness and leash training, that may be something she might definitely enjoy as well.

As with any new furry family member, we strongly recommend starting her off in a smaller, enclosed area of your home so that she can get used to the new sounds and smells of her new environment. Changes can be quite scary to some kitties so she asks that you be patient with her until she is comfortable.

Dior

  • Three years old

Dior is a sweet, affectionate girl ready to find her forever home.

She is snuggly and loving, but has a bit of a nervous tummy, so will do best in a quieter home without young children.

She is very friendly and playful and enjoys cat nip toys!

She is booked for her spay surgery and dental check on Nov. 1 in Port Coquitlam, so her new family would be picking her up as a "foster to adopt" and taking care of her until then.
