Photos: You can adopt these animals in Tri-Cities' care for half the cost

BC SPCA is offering another 50 per cent off blitz for the month of February.

February is a month of love for many Tri-Cities residents, especially those that have a soft spot for animals.

Those who've been strongly thinking of adopting a new friend for their home can do so for the next two weeks at half the cost.

Starting today (Feb. 10), the BC SPCA is offering 50 per cent off all adoption fees, including at its Coquitlam chapter (1-2565 Lougheed Hwy.).

You can view a list of pets available for adoption below.

"We have so many amazing animals in our care who are just waiting for a family to call their own," said Adrienne McBride, BC SPCA's senior director of community animal centres, in a news release.

"This is such a 'win-win' opportunity, and we are very grateful to Hill's Pet Nutrition for their support of the animals in our care."

McBride added that providing a loving home for a deserving animal not only gives a pet a wonderful new beginning, but also frees up space in SPCA facilities and foster homes to help even more animals in need.

The biannual promotion runs until Feb. 26.

For more information on the adoption event, you can visit the BC SPCA's website.

Here are the pets currently up for adoption in the Tri-Cities (from youngest to oldest), along with SPCA profile descriptions:

Bob

  • Six months old

Bob is an active black that's spent more than 150 days in the Coquitlam SPCA's care.

He enjoys running on his wheel and creating tunnels in his habitat.

Zeke

  • Six months old

Zeke, a brown and black pet mouse, loves to eat.

The Coquitlam SPCA says he'll entertain you with his habitat antics, but also enjoys being held every now and then.

Like Bob, Zeke has also spent more than 150 days in the local adoption centre.

Orbit

  • Eight months old

Orbit is a young, sensitive domestic short-hair kitten who came into SPCA's care with his siblings.

A quiet, smaller area of a home is recommended as changes are quite overwhelming for him. The ideal family should be quiet and patient, while also giving affection to make him comfortable.

Orbit is also a climber and is determined to find the highest spot in the house, quite possibly knocking over everything in his quest to get there! A catwalk going up and along the wall would be a dream.

He is quite smart and can figure out food puzzles. Orbit loves to play with balls and small plush toys. He does still have a lot of kitten energy to expend so would benefit from a cat-experienced family that could offer multiple play sessions throughout the day.

He is very chatty and does want a response back from his humans so that he feels included in the conversations.
