DashMart, a grocery delivery service, is coming to Port Coquitlam.

A new grocery delivery service is among several new businesses opening up in Port Coquitlam, the city has revealed.

DashMart by DoorDash is renovating space at #300 – 2748 Lougheed Hwy., as it expands its grocery offerings to the Metro Vancouver area.

While the company can't confirm anything at this time, a spokesperson stated in an email to the Tri-City News that a DashMart is in the "initial planning stages."

The value of the interior alteration under building permit is $350,000 as work gets underway, however, a business licence has not yet been approved.

The online delivery company already has an operation in Vancouver.

DashMart, offers more than 2,000 convenience, grocery and locally-produced items, selling everything from fresh and frozen grocery staples to household essentials, according to the company.

How it works

After tapping in an order, a "Dasher" will pick your groceries up from DashMart’s warehouse and bring it right to your doorstep.

The company is currently evaluating demand for delivery services across the country, a spokesperson stated in an email.

"We are always evaluating where to invest in order to meet the needs of our communities and consumers across Canada. We are continuing to add more selection in the convenience and grocery categories by investing in DoorDash owned and operated warehouses for distribution, as well as through third-party partnerships that drive incremental revenue for grocers."

DashMart is one of several new businesses that have opened or are planning to open in the city.

So far this year, PoCo has issued business licences to 4,650 businesses compared to 4,085 last year, with new businesses generating $1.1 million in revenue for the city.

Other business dealings of note include the Elevator Union Local 82 moving into the old RBC branch at 2581 Shaughnessy St. across from city hall.

Open since Nov. 7, it will serve as an administration hub, hiring hall and training centre for over 900 elevator mechanics from across B.C. and the Yukon.

Two other businesses are in the planning stages.

PoCo Sweet Shop, an online candy store, with specialty sweets and gifts, will be opening a brick and mortar store.

Industry Haus, a place to rent space for small-scale manufacturing is also planning to open in the Dominion Triangle, according to the city.
