Port Moody's growing food scene is about to get a little hotter with a new restaurant set to open on Murray Street later this spring.

Anyone familiar with the Mama Said food truck outside Twin Sails Brewing will be excited to learn that owners Cody and Clay Allmin will be opening a brick-and-mortar version of the popular take-away eatery.

Here's what we know so far about the new restaurant:

Mama Said Pizza Co. will be located at 3135 Murray St. in a brand-new building near the heart of the happening Brewery District.

It will be 1,100 sq. ft. with 28 seats inside and decor to feature an industrial look to match a combined restaurant/sports bar vibe.

As for the pizza, the creativity behind the pizza is chef Vanessa Casilla, who will bring to the restaurant the same hybrid Brooklyn-Neapolitan style of pizza that has grown a food truck following since it opened in 2020.

"Our crust has spotting like Neapolitan-style but is crispy and chewy like New York-style; hence the reason we cut our pies in bigger slices," says Casilla.

The line up of pizzas will likely include some of the food truck favourites, including:

  • The Mama: Fresh mozzarella, ricotta, speck, pesto, arugula, honey sesame crust
  • Sweet Heat Supreme: Fresh mozzarella, pancetta, caramelized onions, banana peppers
  • The Fun Guy: White sauce, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, caramelized onions, braised fennel and arugula

In addition to pies, Mama Said restaurant will also have salads, appetizers, dessert, cocktails, wine and beer.

Cody and Clay Allmin have had some success in the food and hospitality industry: They are the owners behind the Boxset Collective, known for Bar Susu, Published on Main and Novella, in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Vancouver.

The Mama Said restaurant is also being designed by Amber Johnson of Establishment Interior Design, the same company that also designed Novella Coffee Bar and Vignette, a night-time offering for Novella.
