Ridge Meadows RCMP said a 41-year-old Port Coquitlam died in a fatal pedestrian collision Sunday night.

A Port Coquitlam man died of injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle despite efforts of an off-duty paramedic to revive him.

Ridge Meadows RCMP have not released the name of the deceased but said in a news release that the collision occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 21) on 24200-block Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.

Police report that the 41-year-old man from Port Coquitlam was walking on Lougheed Highway when he was struck by a pickup truck heading westbound.

An off duty paramedic attempted life saving measures until Maple Ridge Fire Department and BC Ambulance services arrived on scene to take over.

Sadly, the man died on scene. The BC Coroners Services attended to assist with the investigation.

The scene was secured and Lougheed Highway was closed down for approximately seven hours to allow the Ridge Meadows Serious Crimes Unit (SCU), the Ridge Meadows Investigational Support Team (IST) and the Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Services (ICARS) a safe space to investigate the collision.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the result of the collision.

"Our thoughts go out to the family of the pedestrian who lost a loved one," stated Constable Julie Klaussner. "Thank you to the off duty paramedic and to the witnesses who provided immediate help to the man."

Anyone with dash camera footage or who witnessed the collision and who has not already spoken to police are encouraged to contact the Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.

This investigation is still ongoing and there are no further details available at this time, the release further stated.
