Port Moody community groups looking for an extra hand with ensuring the community's well being can turn to city hall for help.

Local non-profits and organizations could potentially earn a piece of a $20,000 pie through the 2023 grant program, in which the application process has officially opened.

Eligible submissions are set to be considered by the Port Moody’s Citizen Advisory Group (CAG), consisting of more than 250 volunteer residents of all ages that regularly provide input on civic issues.

"CAG members will review eligible applications and make a recommendation to council as to which applications should be approved," a Port Moody release reads.

The city lists the following criteria for interested groups to receive a grant:

  • Availability of funds budgeted for grants and donations
  • How you will address a need in the community
  • Which city goals and objectives are met
  • The promotion of well-being and quality of life of Port Moody residents
  • The degree to which funding will be used for the community as a whole
  • Applying for other sources of funding
  • How funds will be used in Port Moody
  • The organization's needs
  • Benefits to people of all ages and abilities
  • Volunteer involvement
  • Fostering of community spirit

The deadline to apply is set for Jan. 31, 2023.

Back in April, the City of the Arts announced the distribution of $18,547 to seven organizations. A total of $20,000 was also available, meaning the remaining $1,453 was available for emergency requests.
