A 69-year-old Coquitlam woman is still missing after several days of searching by police, volunteers and the general public.
Time is starting to be of the essence in finding Lifang Cheng, who's diagnosed with dementia according to RCMP's latest update.
She was reported missing on Monday (July 10), last seen before 8:50 a.m. that morning near Harper Road and Mitchell Street.
Coquitlam Search and Rescue (SAR) joined the investigation on Tuesday (July 11), and have extensively scanned Burke Mountain with a helicopter and several dozen boots on the ground roaming the trails.
Spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said Cheng's case "continues to be a priority" for local Mounties as her family is becoming "extremely" concerned for her health and well-being.
"We appreciate the public's efforts in providing assistance by physically searching for Lifang or sharing updated sightings of her throughout the community," she said.
"We encourage those who have not spoken to our investigators to reach out, as we continue to gather possible sightings of Lifang."
Coquitlam RCMP's general investigation section has since taken lead on the missing person's report.
Police are asking the public to come forward with witness statements, as well as potential video of Cheng, including dash cam, surveillance, CCTV or cell phone footage.
Officials are also using this incident as a reminder for walkers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts to be mindful when venturing onto local trail systems, especially those on Burke Mountain.
