This new exhibit features paintings, sculptures by talented SD43 teachers

Place des Arts is showcasing the hidden talents of educators in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody.

With the new academic year underway this week, a Coquitlam gallery is launching a fresh exhibit featuring the works of Tri-City teachers.

Tomorrow, Sept. 8, Place des Arts will open a free show called Creative Connections that puts the spotlight on recent pieces made by School District 43 (SD43) educators in their spare time.

The participating art teachers will be in attendance for a reception at the facility (1120 Brunette Ave.) from 7 to 9 p.m.

Also opening Friday night is a display curated by the Asian Impact Society called Your Art, Your Reflections: Multiculturalism, Diversity and Anti-Racism, as well as All My Relations, an exhibit curated by First Nations artist and educator Christine Mackenzie that focuses on Indigenous and Métis artists.

The Maillardville arts hub will tie two events this fall with the latter show:

  • All My Relations: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
    • Sept. 30, 1 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Circle of Traditions: Art-making and Storytelling with Christine Mackenzie
    • Oct. 13, 6 to 8 p.m.

Creative Connections and All My Relations can be seen at Place des Arts until Oct. 26 and online starting Sept. 15; the Asian Impact Society display is on view until Nov. 9 and online from Sept. 15.
