Tri-Cities Today: September 9, 2023

What's happening in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023.
The Coquitlam Express plays an exhibition game against Powell River at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex at 7 p.m.

Here's what's going on in the Tri-Cities for Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023:

KidSport Sale

Bring a non-perishable food donation or cash to gain entry into the Poirier Forum (618 Poirier St., Coquitlam) for the biannual KidSport used gear sale, a fundraiser happening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that offers deals on gently used hockey, lacrosse, baseball and football equipment. Bikes are also on sale. Proceeds help pay for organized sporting registration fees for Tri-Cities families in financial need. Volunteers are sought.

Repair Café

Save your broken item from the landfill and have it fixed instead by one of the volunteers at the Repair Café, a monthly event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City of Port Coquitlam's public works building (1737 Broadway St.). Donations are appreciated.

SK8 Jam

Join the United Way of BC at Mackin Park (1046 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) for its Hi Neighbour initiative. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the organization hosts its second annual SK8 Jam — a free event that's aimed to bring youth together to enjoy all things skateboarding (and scootering) and to learn to take community ownership by caring for the park space. Several park clean-ups will occur during the event facilitated by the City of Coquitlam’s Park Spark team.

Bye Weeds

Get your boots on to help remove invasive plants from the green belt near Noons Creek Drive Park in Port Moody. Participants to the city event are asked to meet at Mountain Meadows Elementary (999 Noons Creek Dr.) at 9:30 a.m. Bring a water bottle. Attendees ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The party is from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Port Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (2675 Shaughnessy St.). Admission is $15 and is suitable for ages 19 and older.
