Paula Higgins is making her debut with Align Entertainment as Belle in 'Beauty and the Beast'; Jacob Woike, also of Vancouver, plays her Beast.

A theatrical company based in Coquitlam will have 25 Tri-City residents on the stage — and working behind the scenes — for its next production.

Align Entertainment, which is owned in part by Coquitlam’s Patti Volk and Chad Matchette of Port Coquitlam, will mount the family-friendly musical Beauty and the Beast at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby from Jan. 26 to Feb. 10, 2024.

Starring Vancouver residents Paula Higgins as Belle, who is making her Align début, and Jacob Woike as the Beast, the show tells the story of a young woman who meets a creature trapped under a spell; his curse ends when he falls in love.

Based on the Oscar-winning animated film by Disney, the stage version includes the songs penned by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, and includes new tunes by Menken and Tim Rice.

Matchette is the director and co-producer of the Align work, while Kevin Woo of Coquitlam is the musical director.

The cast includes the following Tri-City actors:
