Looking to furnish an apartment?

Maybe you should scour some Port Coquitlam neighbourhoods, especially the city's downtown.

This week, city works crews found dozens of items — including an area rug, a treadmill and part of a sectional couch — in a fall clean-up blitz, which began Monday (Sept. 18) with civic employees hitting the downtown core armed with litter pickers and buckets.

The clean-up blitz continues through to Wednesday, in what will become a seasonal program with more details to come, according to the city in a press release.

In one day, Monday, Sept. 18, workers found:

  • a treadmill
  • a large area rug
  • an office chair
  • a set of old box planters
  • a mirror
  • a pillow
  • a piece of a sectional couch
  • automobile hubcaps
  • four shopping carts and
  • 15 bags of garbage

The fall clean-up blitzed moved to the northern side on Tuesday, Sept. 19 and will be finishing up on Wednesday. Sept. 20 on the southern side.

The litter blitz includes:

  • roadside litter pick-up, including major arterial roads
  • clean up around targeted catch basins in neighbourhoods
  • surrounding trails
  • street sweeping to clean up debris from streets
  • litter and debris removal in city parks
  • illegal dumping cleanup
  • graffiti cleanup

Residents driving or cycling are advised to expect minor delays around crews.

The public is asked to be safe by respecting work zones and giving crews space while they sweep through.

In July, city crews picked up three tonnes of litter in a summer clean-up blitz.
