An outbreak at a Coquitlam long-term care facility has been declared over, but not before taking the lives of six residents.

Workers and residents at Belvedere Care Centre have been battling the outbreak for the last 45 days. The coronavirus has infected at least 35 residents and 17 staff members at the long-term care facility.

“With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases at this location,” wrote a spokesperson for Fraser Health Dec. 24.

Lakeshore Care Centre in Coquitlam and Nicola Lodge Care Community in Port Coquitlam continue to battle outbreaks of the virus.

The good news comes for residents, staff and families just in time for Christmas.

Though while some may have the day off from work, Fraser Health confirmed it will keep its coronavirus testing facilities open throughout the holidays.

“At this time, it is critically important for people living in the Fraser Health region to use the COVID-19 assessment tool and get tested as soon as you have COVID-19-like symptoms, even mild ones,” urged a spokesperson for the health authority.
