Air quality issue forces Coquitlam city hall to evacuate

Fire crews are tending to the scene and the building is closed for the rest of the day after a generator maintenance issue.

A small fire forced Coquitlam city hall to evacuate and shut down for the rest of the day on Dec. 13, 2022. No injuries have been reported.

Everyone appears to be fine and no injuries have been reported after an apparent air quality issue at Coquitlam city hall today (Dec. 13).

Before 2 p.m., staff inside he facility were evacuated, the city confirmed with the Tri-City News.

The incident stemmed from maintenance that was being conducted on a generator and caused a small fire, producing poor air quality for those inside the Guildford Way building.

Everyone inside was told to go outside out of caution for the mechanical issue, and city hall is set to be closed for the rest of the day

Coquitlam fire crews remain on scene conducting an investigation, as of this publication, and traffic and transit do not appear to be impacted.
