Coquitlam RCMP is investigating a local business as a potential drug manufacturing site after officers found laboratory equipment and chemicals inside.

Police entered the business, located at the 1900-block of McLean Avenue, on a search warrant connected with a drug investigation, according to a Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Const. Deanna Law.

When they found what looked to be a drug lab inside, they called in the RCMP Federal Clandestine Laboratory and Enforcement Team to gather evidence and remove hazardous material, noted Const. Law in a press release.

There are several schools in the area — with the nearest, Pitt River middle school, is only a couple of blocks away.

“We understand the public will be concerned about this suspected drug lab, particularly because there is a school in the area,” said Const. Deanna Law in a written statement.

“We want to assure the public that we are taking steps to mitigate risk, including partnering with experts from across the region”.

Const. Law added that no arrests have been made and the investigation continues.
