For the first time in nearly two weeks, a Tri-City business has been identified for COVID-19 exposure.

Polycrete Restorations Ltd. in Coquitlam is now partially closed as of Tuesday (May 4) following Fraser Health’s protocols when three or more employees in a workplace test positive for the virus.

The company’s office at 202-204 Cayer St. is now closed to the public for at least 10 days while the alert is in effect.

Fraser Health says a business will be removed from its workplace-exposure page once its received authorization to re-open.

The last business to close in the region was Keller Williams Elite Real Estate, when the Port Coquitlam firm was confirmed for COVID-19 exposure on April 22.

It’s since been removed and Fraser Health does not list any other Tr-City area businesses with current alerts in effect.

Polycrete Restorations was listed alongside Brian Mussato Plumbing and Heating Ltd. in Langley.

There are 29 workplaces across the authority with a closure in effect, partial or in full, after being flagged for COVID-19.

Since April 8, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has asked health authorities to disclose the names of workplaces where three or more people have COVID-19 and transmission is likely to have occurred.

With the new order, the closure notice can be served by the health authority’s environmental health officers or WorkSafeBC with the goal to stop any potential spread of the virus and limiting community transmission.

“By using targeted worksite closures around current cases of COVID-19, we may be able to avoid or delay broader workplace closure measures, which could close entire business sectors,” states Fraser Health on its website.

As of this publication (May 5), Fraser Health has recorded 76,593 lab-confirmed tests for the virus, including 847 deaths.

There are currently 4,647 active cases, 95 people in critical care among 297 hospitalizations in the region and 70,911 recoveries.
