Traffic delays expected as Coquitlam installs new signs at this busy intersection

Have a back-up route in mind if your normal commute takes you along Lougheed Highway near Port Coquitlam.

Heads up, Tri-City commuters.

If you frequent Lougheed Highway along the Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam border, you may want to avoid the area tomorrow (Nov. 16).

Crews are set to install new signage at Highway 7's three-way intersection with Pitt River Road between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the City of Coquitlam, southbound traffic will be primarily impacted by the four-hour installation process as it'll be limited to one lane.

As well, only one left-hand turning lane will be open for travellers heading west along Pitt River Road from Port Coquitlam.

While northbound traffic on Lougheed may not be impacted, crews are asking everyone to consider a different route to avoid delays.

Those that do need to use the stretch are asked to slow down, watch out for workers and follow the directions of flaggers.

Meanwhile, emergency sewer repairs are still ongoing in Coquitlam's Austin Heights neighbourhood.

Earlier today (Nov. 15), the city said crews were conducting sanitary sewer repair work near the intersection of Austin Avenue and Decaire Street.

Traffic is currently down to a single lane in each direction.

The project is scheduled to be complete by 6 p.m. this evening, but it may go longer if additional work is needed.
