GIVE BLOOD

Representatives from the Canadian Blood Services will be at the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to take blood donations from the public.

BE A BOARD DIRECTOR 

Have you ever considered volunteering as a board director? Learn more about what it means to be a board director with a nonprofit. Community Volunteer Connections is offering a workshop for volunteers on board leadership. Happening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 136 in the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (1169 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam), this free workshop is perfect for individuals new to board responsibilities, for individuals that need a refresher in board leadership or for those that are curious about board leadership.

ROBBIE BURNS DAY

Honour the Scottish poet and lyricist Robbie Burns on his 265th birthday with the Port Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (2675 Shaughnessy St.). For $60, tuck into a full roast beef dinner — including haggis — and enjoy the entertainment from the Port Coquitlam Legion Community Pipe Band and Highland dancers. The event at 6 p.m. is a fundraiser.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

Coquitlam residents ages 16 and up can learn the basics to the game Dungeons and Dragons at a class hosted by the Coquitlam Public Library. The session takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Poirier branch (575 Poirier St.).

MINERS TRAPPED

Beneath Springhill: The Maurice Ruddick Story is a play about Maurice Ruddick who served as a lifeline to his fellow miners during nine days in 1958 while they were trapped 4,000 ft. underground. Created by Beau Dixon, with music and lyrics by Rob Fortin and Susan Newman, the one-man show runs from Jan. 23 to 27 at 7:30 p.m. (with a matinee on Jan. 27) at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way). Tickets are $50/$42/$16.
