Cassandra Cake Co.; Room to Roam Outdoor Learning; Emilio Finatti; Astoria Retirement Living; Richelle Nails and Spa.

These are the names of the Port Coquitlam businesses that scooped awards last year for being the best in the city.

Now, the municipality is calling on the public to nominate their current favourite places to eat, shop and get services.

The deadline is Sunday, Feb. 4, to submit an online entry for the ninth annual Port Coquitlam Best Biz Awards — showcasing the top local companies and entrepreneurs operating who sometimes use their platforms to do good in the community.

Nominations are being sought for the following categories:

  • Small Business of the Year (less than five employees)
  • Business of the Year (six or more employees)
  • Home-based Business Award (demonstrated significant growth, sustainability and excellent customer service)
  • New Business of the Year

PoCo businesses are allowed to self-nominate, according to a news release.

People's Choice

As well, from Feb. 5 to 18, the public will get a chance to pick their favourite business from the names put forward, and the business with the most amount of votes will claim the coveted People’s Choice Award.

Last year, the awards call drew 100 nominees.

This year, the accolades will be presented on Leap Year Day, Feb. 29, at a celebration at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.

The event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. takes place in Mabbett Hall and is open to all PoCo businesses and employees.

The awards program and party are sponsored in part by the Tri-City News.
