Veteran Port Moody councillor Diana Dilworth will be seeking a sixth term in the Oct. 20 municipal election.

Dilworth, a government relations manager for the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, was first elected to council in 1999, then again for four straight terms from 2005 to 2014.

“I am running because I care about Port Moody and want to continue to play a role in responsibly growing and enhance our community,” Dilworth, a resident of the city for 27 years, said in a press release.

Dilworth received 3,916 votes in the 2014 municipal elections, second highest among council candidates behind only Rick Glumac, who is now the MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam.

Other candidates who’ve recently announced their intention to run for Port Moody council include Stirling Ward and James Robertson.

Ward is a commercial photographer who said in a press release he’s “committed to making Port Moody an even more vibrant and healthy community.”

He’s a former recipient of a civic award for his contribution to the arts in Port Moody and he’s a director of the Port Moody Foundation.

Robertson is a former officer in the Canadian Navy and with Canada’s Special Forces Command. He’s lived in the city with his wife and young daughter since 2016.

Robertson, who now does strategic consulting and executive coaching, said Port Moody needs more housing stock and economic activity to become a hub rather than just a bedroom community. He also wants to enhance the city’s arts and heritage assets to become a cultural destination for the Lower Mainland.
