The Editor, Re. "Radia: Maximize good in Van's DTES" (Face to Face, The Tri-City News, July 18). Like others, Andy Radia's thoughts regarding the Downtown East Side gentrification debate lack context.

B ring on the funky bistros, tapas bars, Starbucks patios and happening Thai food places. Damn the torpedoes and don't worry too much about displacing low-income residents and affordable rental units.

T he democratized world is at a crossroads, in which one route leads to freedom, the other to safety. Embracing one comes at the expense of the other and neither includes guarantees.

Idon't much like the term "anti-gentrification." I think we should call it what it really is: anti-development, anti-improvement, anti-betterment and anti-capitalism.

The Editor, Re. "Zap! Get ready for BC Hydro rate hikes" (BC Views, The Tri-City News, July 10).

The Editor, Re. "PoMo park pay parking?" (The Tri-City News, July 12). As a Coquitlam resident, I would implore Port Moody's mayor and council to reconsider charging non-residents to park at Rocky Point Park.

Whether people own goldfish, cats or parakeets, many derive an intense amount of joy from having pets in their lives. Dogs are no exception but some of man's best friends get a harder time than others.

The Editor, Voters are not stupid but I wager that most of them haven't spent much time studying how cities with a good to great transit system (relative to the population of the town) finance their transit systems.

Better late than never is one way of viewing Coquitlam's proposed regulations to prevent erosion during high rainfall events on new development projects in the city.
